Highlights

  • Nio introduced a battery upgrade option for Firefly owners in China, offering battery swap flexibility and product improvements.
  • A group of four Nio ES8 owners completed an 8,045-kilometer trip across China exclusively using battery swaps, showing charging infrastructure maturity.
  • Shares of Nio trade below key moving averages with a clear short- and long-term bearish trend, expected to fluctuate between $3.15 and $3.27.

Product innovation muted by persistent selling pressure

Nio has implemented a battery upgrade for its Firefly model in China, which now allows current Firefly owners to opt for a battery swap, according to Electrive. This move adds functional flexibility for customers and signals an ongoing commitment to product innovation, although such incremental improvements tend to exert a muted effect on the company's overall valuation. In a separate development, Autonews Gasgoo reported that a group of four Nio ES8 owners completed an extensive 8,045-kilometer drive across China relying exclusively on battery swaps, underscoring operational maturity of Nio’s charging infrastructure. Despite these positive developments, price action has remained under broader selling pressure.

Oversold signals deepen as resistance and seller bias persist

On the technical front, NIO/USD is trading below the MA-20 and MA-50 on the h1 timeframe, and remains well under the MA-200 on the daily chart. Immediate resistance is marked by the daily Ichimoku Kijun at $3.29, while support lies at $3.15. Momentum signals present a mixed picture: the RSI reads 33.28 (signaling a sell zone), while Stochastic RSI and CCI point to oversold conditions. MACD and ADX remain neutral, as does the Awesome Oscillator. Bull/Bear Power intraday continues to indicate seller dominance, aligning with the current move to today’s low and a small negative price gap.

Sideways trading expected amid heightened downside risk

Looking ahead, NIO is expected to trade between $3.15 and $3.27 over the next few sessions, with volatility band constrained by recent lows. The likelihood of an upward price move is presently very low, while downside risk remains pronounced and a rebound appears unlikely in the short term. The baseline scenario projects sideways movement in a narrow range; a break above $3.29 would be needed to shift momentum decisively higher, but further bearish activity could see NIO test or breach support at $3.15.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, Traders Union expert, interprets recent Nio news as constructive yet currently overshadowed by broader selling pressure. He sees the company’s product and infrastructure improvements as supportive for sentiment but not sufficient to alter the short-term technical outlook. The analyst expects price to remain rangebound, with downside taking precedence for now. "Incremental innovations and strong infrastructure are positives for Nio’s future, but for the moment, price action still favors sellers."

Earlier, analysts noted that Nio shares remained under sustained selling pressure despite operational progress and improved domestic sales. The current technical setup reinforces this downward trend, with the key level to watch now shifting to a potential breakdown below $3.15 as downside risk persists.
