AMD stock attempts recovery after sharp sell-off wipes out post-earnings gains
AMD is attempting a sharp rebound after a 17.3% sell-off, but political and AI-sector risks are keeping confidence fragile. A break above $450 could extend the recovery toward $466, while $423 remains the key downside level.
AMD announced a collaboration with IBM and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in quantum computing. The new platform uses EPYC processors and Instinct MI355X accelerators. The positive corporate news, however, was not enough to stop the selloff, with AMD stock falling 17.3% amid concerns that the Democratic election victory could lead to tighter regulation of the AI industry.

Market indicators reflected the scale of the panic. According to VandaTrack, U.S. retail investors sold a net $379 million of individual stocks between the market open and 2:00 p.m. ET on November 5, marking the largest morning selloff in at least six years. Meanwhile, the put/call ratio of US stock options jumped to 1.05, exceeding the mark reached in April 2025.

AMD stock targets $450 as buyers attempt a recovery
The scenario outlined previously did not play out. Following the earnings release, AMD stock failed to reach the $528 target, while the Democratic victory in the U.S. elections triggered a wave of panic selling. The decline eventually pushed the price down to $402.10.
In premarket trading on November 6, AMD is recovering by around 8%. The nearest resistance stands at $450, while $423 serves as support. Price action is expected to remain within this range during today’s session.
A break above $450 could accelerate the rebound toward $466. If the stock falls below $423 instead, the next target would be the 200-day SMA near $415.25.
Political uncertainty keeps AMD recovery vulnerable
Despite strong earnings, AMD remains sensitive to political and macroeconomic risks. Potentially tighter regulation of the AI industry raises questions about the pace of data-center expansion, which plays an important role in future demand for the company’s chips.
The sharp rebound following the heavy selloff does not yet guarantee a lasting recovery. With uncertainty still elevated, AMD stock could remain highly volatile.
