Fintech Innovation and Startup Growth by John Collison
John Collison is the President and Co-Founder of Stripe, a global payments technology company with an estimated valuation of $95 billion as of 2025. Along with his brother Patrick, he oversees a platform that serves over 3 million businesses worldwide and processes transactions in 135 currencies, including digital assets.
In April 2024, Stripe resumed support for cryptocurrency payments, beginning with USDC on the Solana, Ethereum, and Polygon blockchains. Under John’s leadership, Stripe acquired the stablecoin infrastructure provider Bridge in late 2024, enabling low-fee international payments across its platform. By mid-2025, Bridge had processed more than $1 billion in stablecoin transactions.
John Collison has been a public advocate for stablecoins as tools for financial efficiency. In a 2025 congressional testimony, he described them as “superconductors for payments innovation.” While Stripe does not issue its own token, Collison has confirmed plans to eventually launch a Stripe-native stablecoin built on open protocols. He is widely credited with mainstreaming digital asset infrastructure in global financial services.
