DeFi Innovation and Protocol Development by Robert Leshner
Robert Leshner, founder of Compound Labs, remains one of the leading innovators in decentralized finance (DeFi) in 2025. Compound, the algorithmic money market protocol, holds over $3.8 billion in total value locked and continues to serve as the foundation for borrowing/lending on Ethereum and other Layer 2 chains. In 2024, Leshner launched Superstate, a tokenized U.S. Treasury fund aiming to merge traditional financial products with blockchain transparency.
With a background in economics and public policy, Leshner previously worked as a municipal finance advisor and built several tech startups before launching Compound in 2017. He’s widely credited with introducing the first successful model of decentralized interest rates, influencing the rise of DeFi yield protocols. Leshner is a frequent speaker at ETHGlobal, Devcon, and SEC policy roundtables. His projects have processed over $40 billion in cumulative lending volume, and he remains a strong proponent of regulatory-friendly DeFi.
