Crypto Investment Trends from Michael Sonnenshein
Michael Sonnenshein is a prominent American finance executive best known for leading Grayscale Investments from 2021 to 2024. Under his leadership, Grayscale secured a historic legal win that enabled the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) to convert into the first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF, a turning point for institutional crypto access. This move set the stage for similar products by BlackRock and Fidelity and solidified Grayscale’s regulatory influence.
Sonnenshein joined Grayscale in 2014 and helped scale its AUM to over $60 billion at its peak. Despite GBTC seeing over $17 billion in outflows post-conversion, it remained the top-earning U.S. Bitcoin ETF, generating $268 million annually. He also expanded Grayscale’s offerings into Ethereum, Solana, and DeFi trusts, and became a vocal advocate for investor protection and market transparency.
Previously at Barclays and J.P. Morgan, Sonnenshein holds an MBA from NYU Stern. He is recognized for bridging traditional finance with digital innovation and continues to be a respected voice in crypto investing.
