Plus500 said it would finance the purchase with cash and use Hedge's brokerage operations to expand its U.S. offering into stocks, options, exchange-traded funds, and prediction markets, Bloomberg reports. The company did not disclose the value of the deal.

Acquisition adds U.S. brokerage capabilities

Hedge Capital Markets was established in 2021 and is registered as a broker-dealer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Its acquisition gives Plus500 access to an established brokerage operation as the British company seeks to serve American customers across a wider selection of financial instruments.

The transaction forms part of a broader effort to diversify the company's trading services. Plus500 plans to launch a new application in the first quarter of 2027, bringing different asset classes together within a single platform. The United States will be the first market to receive the app, with international expansion expected afterward.

The proposed offering would allow Plus500 to reach customers interested in conventional securities alongside other trading products. However, the company has not provided a detailed timetable for introducing each product category or disclosed how Hedge's existing operations will be integrated into the new application.

New York office strengthens U.S. presence

Alongside the acquisition, Plus500 has opened an office in New York, adding to its existing operations in Chicago. The move expands the company's physical presence in the United States as it prepares for the application launch and develops its local brokerage business.

The expansion comes during a difficult period for several British-listed trading platforms. Shares across the sector have faced pressure following an unexpected decline in third-quarter revenue at rival IG Group, raising questions about trading activity and the earnings outlook for brokerage operators.

Plus500 has reported strong performance during the comparable period, although its shares have declined approximately 8% since the beginning of the year. The acquisition therefore arrives as investors assess whether geographic expansion and a wider product range can support growth despite weaker sentiment toward the sector.

Broader product range brings new challenges

The acquisition would give Plus500 a foothold in U.S. securities trading, a market with different regulatory and operational requirements from its established trading activities. Hedge's broker-dealer registration provides an existing framework for part of that expansion, although the transaction does not itself establish when every planned service will become available.

Prediction markets are another notable element of the proposed offering. Their inclusion suggests Plus500 intends to compete for customers seeking more than traditional brokerage services. The immediate test will be whether the company can combine these products into a practical trading platform while maintaining the compliance and infrastructure needed to operate in the United States.

For investors, the undisclosed purchase price leaves the financial scale of the transaction unclear. Attention will instead turn to the early-2027 launch, customer adoption, and whether the expanded U.S. business can generate meaningful revenue beyond Plus500's existing operations.
