U.S. and Canadian miners highlight copper, gold and silver growth plans after Beaver Creek summit
Mining growth plans unveiled

Mining investors are tracking a new batch of junior and emerging producers after the Beaver Creek Precious Metals Summit spotlighted companies at different stages of development. The latest profiles focus on Gunnison Copper, Contango Silver & Gold and Goliath Resources, with catalysts ranging from current production and exchange listing plans to resource growth and project permitting.

Highlights

  • Gunnison Copper targets NYSE American listing under GUNN by Oct. 26, aiming to boost U.S. investor visibility as Johnson Camp restarts August 2025 and ramps toward 25 million pounds annual copper capacity.
  • Contango Silver & Gold delivers Q2 net income of $4.8 million from Manh Choh, with $37.5 million in sales and $89 million cash, eyeing production growth to 200,000+ gold ounces and 5 million silver ounces yearly post-2026 merger with Dolly Varden Silver.
  • Goliath Resources expands Golddigger's high-grade gold footprint to 2.01 km² by September 2026 after 48,443 meters of drilling, but lacks a resource estimate or economic study, keeping project valuation speculative.

Production, listings and project milestones

As reported by Weiss Ratings, Gunnison Copper is positioning itself as an emerging U.S. copper producer with current output from Johnson Camp Mine and a larger long-term growth plan tied to its flagship Gunnison Copper Project in Arizona.

The company is working toward a NYSE American listing under the proposed ticker GUNN, expected on or about Oct. 26, with the new security structured as an ADR representing 35 common shares. Gunnison says the TSX-listed common shares will continue trading under GCU, while the new U.S. listing is expected to improve visibility and liquidity among U.S. investors.

At the operating level, copper production at Johnson Camp restarts in August 2025, and the first copper from Rio Tinto's Nuton bioleaching technology follows in December. The mine reaches commercial production in September 2026 after record output in August, and the company is ramping toward the SX/EW plant's annual nameplate capacity of 25 million pounds of copper cathode.

Gunnison reports Q2 2026 production of 2.01 million pounds of copper cathode and revenue of $23.6 million, including $13.7 million from copper sales, while net income reaches $13.1 million, compared with a loss a year earlier. The company has not yet published full-year 2026 production guidance or an AISC figure for Johnson Camp, while the larger Gunnison Project's 2026 PEA outlines average annual production of 174 million pounds of copper cathode over its first 15 years.

Contango Silver & Gold is also using current production to support a broader development pipeline. Its 30% interest in the producing Manh Choh gold mine in Alaska is expected to deliver 40,000 to 45,000 ounces of gold in 2026, with management guiding for 75,000 to 80,000 ounces in 2027 as mining moves into higher-grade areas.

In Q2, Contango's share of Manh Choh produces 8,885 ounces of gold and 10,319 ounces of silver sold alongside 8,627 ounces of gold, generating $37.5 million in metal sales and a $9 million cash distribution from the joint venture. The company posts net income of $4.8 million and ends June with $89 million in unrestricted cash, even as current costs remain elevated.

Beyond Manh Choh, Contango is advancing Lucky Shot toward a feasibility study in the first half of 2027 and is targeting construction of an exploration tunnel at Johnson Tract in 2027. The company also says Johnson Tract is approved for the federal FAST-41 permitting program, which could help streamline the review process.

Goliath Resources remains earlier-stage but continues to expand its Surebet gold discovery at the Golddigger property in British Columbia's Golden Triangle. The company says it completes 48,443 meters in 97 holes during its 2026 drilling campaign, with every hole intersecting mineralization, and expands the known high-grade footprint to 2.01 square kilometers by September 2026.

Drilling results continue to support both high-grade and broader-tonnage potential, while metallurgical testing shows 92.2% gold recovery using gravity plus flotation. Goliath acquires full ownership of Golddigger in March 2026 and reduces the property's net smelter return royalty, but it still has no maiden resource estimate, leaving the project in the discovery stage.

Sector implications for North American mining

For Gunnison, the central investment case is the shift from a small operating mine to a much larger domestic copper platform in the U.S. Rio Tinto's Nuton funds the Johnson Camp restart and is using the mine for its first industrial-scale sulfide bioleaching deployment, while Amazon Web Services is named as the first customer for Nuton copper from the site for U.S. data center infrastructure.

The company still faces meaningful execution risk. Its flagship project requires large-scale development capital, the current PEA remains preliminary and Johnson Camp does not yet have established mineral reserves, which leaves uncertainty around long-term recoveries, costs and output.

Contango's strategy points to a different model, using cash flow from existing production to help fund a multi-asset growth profile in gold and silver. The company's 2026 merger with Dolly Varden Silver adds the Kitsault Valley project in British Columbia, and management now sees a path from current annual production of roughly 60,000 gold-equivalent ounces to more than 200,000 ounces of gold plus 5 million ounces of silver per year as projects come online.

That expansion still depends on successful permitting, engineering and financing across Lucky Shot, Johnson Tract and Kitsault Valley. Even so, Contango's producing asset gives it a funding base that many junior miners do not have.

Goliath reflects the earlier end of the mining development curve, where valuation depends less on cash flow and more on proving the scale and economics of a discovery. Its strong drilling record, visible gold and backing from established mining investors support interest in the stock, but the absence of a resource estimate or economic study means the size of any future mine, development cost and production timeline remain uncertain.

Together, the three companies show how investor interest in North American mining remains tied to both current metals demand and the pipeline of new copper, gold and silver supply. They also underline the different risk profiles across the sector, from early discovery and permitting through to commercial ramp-up and exchange market expansion.

Our earlier analysis on U.S. AI data center expansion highlighted how the buildout is running into higher financing costs, construction delays, and tightening power constraints that are undermining confidence in how quickly new capacity can come online. It also noted that investor sentiment has started to wobble as budgets rise and timelines slip, raising the bar for projects to secure funding and deliver on schedule.
