SoundThinking connects vehicle to thefts

SoundThinking announced its CrimeTracer technology assisted the Orange County Sheriff in linking a vehicle with expired plates to cell tower battery thefts in two counties.

CrimeTracer found an out-of-county repo report with an address allegedly used by the suspects, helping authorities make the connection after the DMV failed to identify a current owner.

SoundThinking technology has assisted law enforcement in other jurisdictions as well. Its ShotSpotter system enabled Boston police to respond rapidly to gunfire near a school, resulting in a suspect’s arrest, according to a previous report. The company has also partnered with RedSpeed and PlateRanger to expand school-zone speed enforcement using integrated ALPR, as detailed in a separate announcement.
