VipIR device from 908 Devices combines FTIR and Raman for responders
908 Devices launches VipIR tool

908 Devices has launched VipIR, a handheld device that integrates both FTIR and Raman spectroscopy to assist responders in identifying unknown chemicals onsite.

The new tool aims to address the challenges of analyzing complex chemical mixtures, colored substances, liquids, and powders, which can be difficult when relying on a single technology. By merging both analytical methods, 908 Devices seeks to enhance the efficiency and reliability of field chemical identification.

908 Devices previously launched XplorIR for real-time gas and vapor identification to support fire and HazMat teams in hazard response. Earlier, the company rolled out expanded FTIR features for field detection to help responders identify unknown chemicals. The VipIR debut follows this series of product releases aimed at improving onsite chemical analysis.
