Google DeepMind expands Genie 4 world model access for developers and premium AI subscribers
Genie 4 opens to users

Google DeepMind is preparing a broader rollout of Genie 4, its updated world model that generates interactive simulations in real time. The new version adds native audio, more realistic human movement and improved physics, while access is set to begin through developer tools and Google’s highest-priced consumer AI plans.

Highlights

  • Google DeepMind to roll out Genie 4 via Gemini API, AI Studio, and phased consumer access through Project Genie, improving simulation consistency and commercial use.
  • Genie 4 debuts native audio and enhanced physical behavior modeling, targeting increased appeal for developers in interactive experiences, design, and robotics training.
  • Consumer access begins at $100 per month via Google AI Ultra, indicating a premium monetization focus, with further expansion to AI Pro and AI Plus possible.

Rollout plan and model upgrades

As first reported by Ars Technica, Google DeepMind says Genie 4 builds on last year’s Genie 3 with improvements aimed at making AI-generated simulation environments more consistent and commercially useful. The company plans to make the model available to developers through the Gemini API and AI Studio, while consumer access is due to begin in phases through Project Genie.

DeepMind positions world models as a step toward AGI rather than as conventional video game engines. The system generates environments frame by frame in real time from text prompts, and Genie 4 uses Gemini 3.8 Flash as a guiding agent to break down goals and evaluate output as users move through the simulation.

The company says the updated model better handles aerodynamics, collisions and other physical behavior, which could improve both realism and practical use cases such as robotics training and creative prototyping. Genie 4 also supports mid-session changes, including weather, camera movement and added scene elements, although DeepMind says simulations still remain coherent for only a few minutes before losing their initial context.

Pricing signals and sector implications

Genie 4 is also DeepMind’s first world model with native audio, adding ambient sound, prompted audio elements and adaptive human speech inside simulations. If delivered as described, that combination could raise the commercial appeal of world models for developers building interactive experiences, design tools and training systems.

Google has not yet disclosed pricing for developer access, but the consumer rollout points to a premium monetization strategy. Access through Google AI Ultra starts with plans priced at $100 per month, and the company may later extend availability to AI Pro and AI Plus subscribers.

The launch follows growing industry attention on world models after Genie 3 unsettled gaming stocks last year. Even so, DeepMind says the technology remains an active research area, and Project Genie is still expected to limit how extensively users can work with the model in its initial release phases.
