Cash App removes spreads on high-volume BTC purchases
Cash App introduces zero-fee Bitcoin buys over $2,000

Cash App has unveiled a major overhaul of its Bitcoin fee structure, aiming to make BTC purchases more practical for regular users and long-term holders.

The Block-owned payments platform said it will now charge zero fees for certain Bitcoin buys, signaling a broader effort to reduce friction and position Bitcoin as usable money rather than just a speculative asset, reports CoinGape.

The move comes as mainstream apps compete to become the most accessible on-ramps for retail crypto adoption. Cash App already plays an outsized role in the U.S. Bitcoin market, with more than 24 million customers having purchased BTC through the platform. A growing share of transfers are also routed through the Lightning Network, highlighting its focus on faster and cheaper payments. The company framed the update as part of a longer-term strategy to integrate Bitcoin into everyday financial life.

Zero fees on large and recurring purchases reshape pricing

Previously, Cash App users faced a tiered model where smaller Bitcoin purchases carried proportionally higher fees, often reaching around 3% on low-value transactions. Mid-sized buys typically cost 1.5% to 1.75%, while larger trades still included spreads and service charges. Under the new policy, Bitcoin purchases above $2,000 will now carry no fees or spreads, effectively eliminating costs for high-volume buyers.

Cash App will also remove fees entirely for recurring automated Bitcoin purchases, encouraging dollar-cost averaging and longer-term accumulation. The company said it will introduce clearer pricing disclosures alongside the changes, aiming to improve transparency for users. These adjustments mark one of the most aggressive pricing shifts by a major consumer finance app in the Bitcoin space.

Higher withdrawal limits and broader access for serious holders

Beyond fee cuts, Cash App is also raising Bitcoin withdrawal limits, increasing caps five-fold for eligible customers. The change gives users more flexibility to move BTC off-platform, an important feature for those prioritizing self-custody. Cash App has also expanded funding options for larger purchases, smoothing the process for users making significant allocations. Analysts see the update as a meaningful step in lowering barriers for both everyday users and more serious Bitcoin holders.

By combining fee-free recurring buys with higher withdrawal capacity, Cash App may be positioning itself as one of the most cost-effective mainstream platforms for Bitcoin access. The broader implication is that competition among payment giants could increasingly shift toward making Bitcoin cheaper, simpler, and more integrated into daily finance.
