Robinhood expands UK app with crypto trading through Bitstamp
Robinhood launches UK crypto

Robinhood is rolling out cryptocurrency trading to eligible customers in the UK, adding digital assets to its main investing app alongside stocks, ISAs, options and futures. The launch starts this week and broadens the company’s push to build an all-in-one investment platform in the UK while deepening its wider crypto ecosystem.

Highlights

  • Robinhood launches crypto trading for UK users via Bitstamp, offering more than 50 tokens with zero trading, maintenance, and custody fees but a 0.1%–0.3% FX fee.
  • Robinhood introduces Cortex Digests for Crypto and highlights Robinhood Chain, allowing global developers to build on its Arbitrum-based Layer 2 blockchain.
  • Q2 company results show crypto transaction revenue falls 38% year-on-year to $100 million, prediction markets surpass crypto at $156 million, total net revenue rises 32% to $1.31 billion, and net income increases 48% to $573 million.

UK rollout adds more than 50 tokens

As reported by The Block, Robinhood is introducing crypto trading in its main UK app through Bitstamp, the exchange it acquired for $200 million last year. Eligible users can buy and sell more than 50 digital assets directly in the app, including BTC, ETH, XRP and HYPE.

Robinhood says the service launches with zero trading fees, no account maintenance fees and no custody fees. UK customers still pay a 0.1% foreign exchange fee, rising to 0.3% for certain weekend conversions.

Cryptocurrency trading is provided through Bitstamp UK Ltd, which is registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority as a crypto asset service provider. Robinhood also says crypto holdings through Bitstamp UK are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme or the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Jordan Sinclair, President of Robinhood UK Ltd and GM of Bitstamp UK Ltd, says a new wave of UK investors sees digital assets as an important part of a diversified portfolio. He says the launch marks another step toward making Robinhood an all-in-one investment platform for the UK.

Crypto push supports broader platform strategy

The launch also brings Robinhood Cortex Digests for Crypto to the UK. The generative AI feature analyzes breaking news, market data, technical indicators and Robinhood’s proprietary insights to explain what is driving price moves in individual crypto assets.

Beyond the in-app trading launch, Robinhood is highlighting its wider digital asset business, including Robinhood Chain, its permissionless Arbitrum-based Layer 2 blockchain. The company says developers globally, including in the UK, can build on the network, which it describes as built to institutional standards.

The UK expansion follows Robinhood’s effort to diversify beyond trading. On July 29, the company reports second-quarter crypto transaction revenue of $100 million, down 38% from a year earlier, while prediction markets revenue reaches $156 million and surpasses crypto for the first time; total net revenue rises 32% year over year to $1.31 billion, and net income increases 48% from Q2 2025 to $573 million.

During that earnings period, executives also point to early traction for Robinhood Chain. Chief Executive Vlad Tenev says it becomes the fastest Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible chain to reach 100 million transactions.

Our earlier report on the UK’s plans for tokenised gold explained that the Financial Conduct Authority is discussing new regulatory standards for blockchain-based claims on bullion as part of a broader effort to modernise wholesale markets. We noted that policymakers are weighing issues such as whether tokenised gold could be used as collateral, against the backdrop of London’s push to defend its leading role in global gold trading as rival hubs accelerate tokenisation initiatives.
