White House meeting and committee agenda
As first reported by CoinDesk, President Donald Trump is expected to attend a White House meeting on Wednesday with members of the new Innovation Advisory Committee at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, according to people briefed on the planning. Executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, Robinhood, Polymarket and Kalshi are expected to take part, and participants have been told Trump is planning to be there. The meeting is expected to be held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the White House and is intended to start a policy dialogue in key areas of U.S. innovation. The roster is also expected to include CFTC Chairman Mike Selig and other advisers, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick may also attend, one person said.
The committee's first formal meeting is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the CFTC. Its opening session is titled, "Crypto’s Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity," and one proposed discussion topic is described as "the remaining challenges to a durable federal market structure."
Crypto policy debate and regulatory stakes
The planned discussions come as the White House and Trump remain caught in a contentious debate over advancing the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act through final votes in the U.S. Senate. The issue keeps federal market structure and oversight at the center of the administration's engagement with the crypto industry.Further movement on the legislation may depend on whether Trump is willing to accept tighter ethics restrictions tied to his personal involvement in the crypto industry. White House spokespeople do not immediately respond to requests for comment on the meeting plans.
In our earlier coverage of the OCC’s conditional approval for World Liberty Trust Company’s national trust bank charter, we explained how the Trump-linked group could eventually bring stablecoin issuance and related custody functions in-house under federal oversight, pending final conditions such as capital raising. We also highlighted the political scrutiny surrounding the application, with conflict-of-interest concerns adding fuel to Washington’s broader debate over crypto regulation.
