Unicoin and Uniswap Labs clash over UNI trademark
Legal battle over the UNI brand

TransparentBusiness, which operates under the Unicoin brand, has filed a lawsuit against Uniswap Labs in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The company is seeking a declaration that its use of the UNICOIN name does not infringe Uniswap’s rights to the UNI, UNISWAP and UNICHAIN trademarks.

According to Cointelegraph, Unicoin is also asking the court to cancel the U.S. trademark registration for UNI. The lawsuit further states that the unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains do not violate the federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.

Uniswap demanded that Unicoin stop using the UNICOIN brand

According to the complaint, lawyers for Uniswap sent Unicoin three demand letters on June 3, July 17 and August 14. The company was accused of trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting and unfair competition.

Uniswap demanded that Unicoin stop using the UNICOIN name and other UNI-based marks, transfer the unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains, disclose revenue and profit figures, and reimburse Uniswap’s legal costs.

Unicoin rejected the demands and is now seeking a court ruling confirming that its brand does not violate Uniswap’s rights.

Dispute emerges ahead of token launch

The legal dispute began just weeks before the public launch of the UNCN token, which Unicoin has scheduled for September 28.

At the time the lawsuit was filed, the Uniswap protocol ranked first among decentralized exchanges by daily trading volume. According to DeFiLlama, the figure exceeded $3.9 billion.

Uniswap Labs has not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit.

Earlier, Robinhood Chain’s popularity was reported to be growing thanks to Uniswap.
