Matrixdock has launched its tokenized gold product, XAUm, on Circle’s Arc blockchain, giving the network its first gold-backed token and expanding the asset beyond its existing onchain venues. The integration also introduces a faster route from tokenized gold into dollar liquidity, with eligible redemptions providing access to USDC proceeds on the same day.

Highlights

  • XAUm is the first tokenized gold asset launched on Circle Arc.
  • Each XAUm represents one troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold.
  • Eligible redemptions provide same-day access to USDC proceeds.

Each XAUm represents one troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold, according to a Matrixdock announcement. The underlying metal is sourced from LBMA Good Delivery refineries and held on an allocated basis in professional vaults operated by Brink’s and Malca-Amit in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Gold meets faster onchain settlement

The Arc deployment is designed to narrow the gap between physical gold infrastructure and blockchain-based financial markets. Traditional London gold transactions commonly settle on a T+2 basis for unallocated metal, while physical delivery can involve additional logistics and verification.

For eligible XAUm redemptions, holders can instead receive USDC proceeds on the same day after submitting the required transaction evidence. The arrangement does not eliminate the physical processes behind custody and the sale of gold, but it can shorten the point at which investors regain usable onchain dollar liquidity.

Matrixdock says XAUm reserves can be checked through token-to-bar allocation records, monthly reserve statements, and onchain proof of reserves. Independent physical audits are conducted by Bureau Veritas.

Uniswap adds a trading route

The launch also brings XAUm/USDC liquidity to Uniswap, creating a direct onchain market between the gold-backed token and Circle’s dollar stablecoin.

That liquidity could become important if XAUm expands beyond straightforward gold exposure. Matrixdock is positioning the token for potential use in trading, lending, and collateral arrangements, although future integrations will depend on third-party platforms and have not all been announced.

The underlying reserves are held in Hong Kong and Singapore, two major Asian financial centers investing in gold-market infrastructure. Hong Kong is targeting more than 2,000 tonnes of vault capacity within three years, according to Matrixdock.

Matrixdock, the real-world asset technology arm of BIT Group, also issues tokenized silver through Matrixdock Silver, or XAGm.

Tokenized gold gains financial utility

The Arc launch illustrates how tokenization is moving beyond putting ownership claims on a blockchain toward connecting traditional reserve assets with onchain settlement and liquidity.

Gold accounted for 27% of total official foreign reserves at the end of 2025, according to ECB figures cited by Matrixdock. Bringing a gold-backed asset onto the same blockchain environment as USDC creates a more direct connection between two different reserve instruments.

The practical test will be whether that connection produces meaningful trading, lending, and collateral demand. Same-day access to USDC addresses one friction point by reducing the time between an eligible XAUm redemption and access to onchain dollar liquidity, while the physical gold itself remains subject to conventional custody and settlement processes.
