Strategy buys another 250 Bitcoin for $21.5 million
The company continues to buy Bitcoin

Strategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has acquired an additional 250 BTC for approximately $21.5 million. The purchases were made between October 5 and October 11 at an average price of $86,194 per Bitcoin.

According to a press release, the latest acquisition brought Strategy's Bitcoin holdings to 848,250 BTC, worth approximately $70.6 billion. The company has spent around $64 billion acquiring these assets, including fees and related expenses, at an average purchase price of $75,444 per Bitcoin.

Strategy now controls more than 4% of Bitcoin's maximum supply of 21 million coins. At current prices, the company's unrealized gains are estimated at approximately $6.6 billion.

Strategy continues funding Bitcoin purchases through stock sales

To finance its latest Bitcoin purchases, the company used proceeds from sales of its MSTR common stock and its existing cash reserves. Last week, Strategy sold 125,183 shares for approximately $21 million, covering the remaining $500,000 from its cash holdings.

As of October 11, the company had approximately $18.8 billion in shares still available for issuance and sale under its existing stock offering program.

Meanwhile, Strategy repurchased approximately 1.93 million STRC preferred shares for $192.4 million. Following these transactions, the company's USD Reserve stood at $4.88 billion, while its USD Cash holdings totaled $640.5 million.

Ahead of the purchase announcement, Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor posted an updated Bitcoin acquisition chart on X with the caption, "There's always room for more orange." Similar posts have repeatedly preceded announcements of new Bitcoin purchases.

Analysts warn of risks for shareholders

According to Bitcoin Treasuries, 198 publicly traded companies have adopted various Bitcoin accumulation strategies. Beyond Strategy, the largest holders include Metaplanet with 44,000 BTC, Twenty One with 43,514 BTC, MARA with 35,577 BTC, and Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company with 30,021 BTC.

However, growing cryptocurrency reserves do not guarantee higher stock prices. Analysts at TD Cowen maintained their $260 price target for Strategy shares despite raising their Bitcoin forecasts. They believe additional share issuance and the company's financial obligations could limit returns for investors.

TD Cowen expects Bitcoin to reach $109,000 by the end of 2026 and $280,000 by 2029. Meanwhile, its price target for Strategy implies approximately 70% upside potential for the company's shares.

Last week, MSTR shares fell 7%, closing Friday's trading session at $154.34. The stock is virtually unchanged year to date but has lost approximately 53% over the past 12 months. Bitcoin itself declined 4.5% last week.

Strategy has not always kept its promises

For years, Michael Saylor has urged investors to buy Bitcoin and never sell it. In December 2024, he reiterated that position, saying he intended to keep buying the cryptocurrency even at record-high prices. However, Strategy itself has deviated from its long-term Bitcoin holding principle on several occasions.

In December 2022, the company sold 704 BTC for $11.8 million to realize a loss and secure tax benefits. Two days later, it purchased 810 BTC. Another sale took place in late May 2026, when Strategy sold 32 Bitcoin for approximately $2.5 million. The proceeds were intended to fund payments on preferred shares. Despite Saylor's statements, the company has therefore shown that it is willing to sell part of its reserves to meet financial needs.

As a reminder, Strategy previously hinted that it was planning to buy more Bitcoin.
