Ethereum price prediction: Can ETH break $2,440 before another liquidation wave?
Ethereum is trying to stabilize after another stretch of sharp price swings. The market remains fragile, however, and the next few sessions could determine the direction of the next major move.
Institutional demand for Ethereum through U.S. spot ETFs remains weak. According to SoSoValue, the funds recorded roughly $320 million in net outflows during the October 12–16 trading week. The negative streak has now extended into a second consecutive week. Investors withdrew $542.2 million between October 5 and 9. Weekly outflows have therefore slowed by roughly 41%, but there is still little evidence of a sustained return of capital to Ethereum funds.
Large leveraged positions are adding another source of instability. According to Hypurrscan, a newly created wallet opened a 25x short position involving 13,826 ETH worth about $33.5 million. As the price recovered, the position was partially liquidated, reducing it to 8,849 ETH, or roughly $21.4 million, with a new liquidation level at $2,430.28. Positions of this size and leverage have contributed to the abrupt price swings seen since late August.

Ethereum faces a crucial test between $2,319 and $2,440
ETH once again tested the previously identified $2,350–2,400 liquidity zone, briefly falling as low as $2,329 before quickly recovering above $2,400.
If the October 15 low at $2,319 breaks over the coming days, the risk of another liquidation wave would increase considerably. In that scenario, $2,200 becomes the next downside target and nearest major support area.
The picture would improve if Ethereum can break above the local descending trendline near $2,440 and establish a sustained hold there.
Such a move could accelerate the recovery toward $2,500, followed by the 50-day SMA near $2,552.
U.S. earnings season could add to Ethereum price volatility
Crypto volatility is unlikely to ease significantly over the next several days. Wall Street is entering one of the busiest weeks of the U.S. earnings season, with Netflix, Tesla, Meta, IBM and other major companies due to report.
After the recent correction in U.S. equities, market reactions could be sharp even when corporate results are strong. If earnings deepen concerns over the outlook for the technology sector, some of that pressure could spill over into crypto.
For Ethereum, that adds another layer of uncertainty at a time when ETF outflows remain negative and heavily leveraged positions are still highly sensitive to relatively small price moves.
