The unit is being built after the company's August acquisition of NYDIG's institutional and trading business and adds derivatives, collateral management and structured products capabilities.

Highlights

  • BitGo launched BitGo Global Markets after acquiring NYDIG's institutional trading business on August 27, bringing in about 30 employees and expanding derivatives and financing capabilities.
  • The new division, led by former NYDIG executive Pete Janney, integrates liquidity, execution, financing, derivatives, and settlement on one institutional platform for complex institutional crypto strategies.
  • BitGo Global Markets offers spot and large OTC trading, crypto-collateralized borrowing, options, swaps, custom structured products, managed investment strategies, and handles clearing and settlement via Go Network.

Institutional trading and financing expansion

As first reported by The Block, BitGo says the new BitGo Global Markets business combines global liquidity, execution, financing, derivatives and settlement services under one institutional platform.

The division is led by former NYDIG executive Pete Janney, who joins the expanded operation after BitGo's Aug. 27 acquisition of NYDIG's institutional and trading business. About 30 employees move to BitGo through the deal, adding experience in derivatives, financing, collateral servicing and structured products.

BitGo has offered institutional trading through BitGo Prime since 2020, and that business now sits within Global Markets alongside the capabilities added from NYDIG. BitGo CEO Mike Belshe says the new structure brings together the firm's custody, liquidity, trading, financing and settlement operations with deeper capital markets expertise to support more complex institutional strategies.

Broader product suite for crypto institutions

Under the new unit, BitGo's Global Liquidity Layer provides access to spot trading and large over-the-counter transactions by drawing liquidity from exchanges, market makers and other counterparties. Clients can also borrow against crypto holdings to fund trading positions, while BitGo keeps collateral in qualified custody, monitors margins and manages collateral calls or liquidations when needed.

BitGo Global Markets also offers options, swaps and custom structured products for eligible counterparties seeking to hedge exposure, express market views or manage portfolio risk. In addition, the business provides managed investment strategies, private funds and research, while BitGo's Go Network handles clearing and settlement.

Janney says institutional digital asset clients need tools that go beyond basic buy-and-hold strategies. His appointment signals BitGo's push to deepen its role in crypto market infrastructure for professional investors.
