Ethereum price prediction: ETH holds channel support after $4,900 rejection

Ethereum price prediction: ETH holds channel support after $4,900 rejection
Ethereum consolidates at channel base after rejection at $4,900, with $5,000 still in sight

Ethereum is consolidating near $4,420 after retreating from the $4,850–$4,900 supply band that capped last week’s advance. Despite the pullback, the broader structure remains constructive, with price still contained within a rising channel that has guided August’s uptrend.

Highlights

- Ethereum trades near $4,420, consolidating after rejection at the $4,850–$4,900 supply zone

- Spot outflows of $62 million suggest accumulation pressure as long-term trend remains intact.

- Key pivots are $4,380 support and $4,570 resistance, with $5,000 in sight if bulls regain momentum.

Buyers are attempting to stabilize at the channel base, an area that previously acted as the springboard for the last rally. The rejection comes as traders weigh both technical signals and broader liquidity conditions ahead of U.S. data later this week. Ethereum remains one of the year’s top-performing large-cap assets, having climbed from below $3,000 in June to recent highs near $4,900.

Technical setup

Trend gauges highlight a corrective phase inside an ongoing uptrend. On the four-hour chart, the 20-EMA at $4,570 and 50-EMA at $4,510 now serve as resistance, while the 100-EMA at $4,380 and the 200-EMA near $4,100 continue to provide underlying support. That alignment typically signals digestion, where price oscillates between fast and slow averages before a breakout defines the next leg. Price action also reflects Smart Money Concepts dynamics. Break-of-structure prints through mid-August confirmed trend continuation, while change-of-character signals have led only to shallow drawdowns into demand zones. The most recent failure just under $4,900 tagged a weak high, suggesting resting liquidity above that level. A decisive close through $4,880–$4,900 could therefore trigger a liquidity sweep into the $5,000–$5,150 region.

For now, $4,420–$4,380 is first support, aligning with the 100-EMA and the channel base. Resistance sits at $4,510–$4,570, where reclaiming the fast EMAs would reassert bullish control. Above that, $4,760–$4,880 marks the key supply barrier. Conversely, a close below $4,300 would expose $4,200–$4,120 near the 200-EMA, a level that has consistently defined the trend on this timeframe.

Flows and fundamentals

Coinglass data show mixed flows, with a net outflow of about $62 million on August 26 as ETH traded near $4,417. Outflows signal fewer tokens available on exchanges, often consistent with accumulation during corrections rather than disorderly selling. Combined with a defended channel base and upward-sloping slow EMAs, the flow picture supports the case for consolidation that could resolve higher.

Fundamentally, Ethereum remains anchored by strong staking participation, sustained DeFi activity, and robust institutional inflows into ETH-based products. These factors continue to provide a longer-term cushion, even as short-term volatility defines the immediate trade.

Ethereum short-term outlook

Ethereum’s near-term roadmap depends on whether bulls can defend $4,380 and reclaim resistance at $4,510–$4,570. Success there would reset momentum and put $4,880–$4,900 back in view, with the $5,000 handle likely to attract attention if broken. A failure to hold $4,380, however, risks a slide toward $4,200, where the 200-EMA sits as the trend’s backstop.

Until a clean downside break occurs, Ethereum remains in a healthy consolidation phase within its rising channel. Dip-buying remains favored above $4,380, with breakout strategies activated only on strength through the $4,570 band.

In earlier coverage, we noted that Ethereum’s breakout above $4,300 confirmed bullish intent but also highlighted $4,800–$4,900 as a critical supply zone. The current rejection reinforces that view, emphasizing the value of reclaiming this level before the next advance toward $5,000.
