Solana to launch PSG1 Web3 gaming console on October 6
Solana is preparing to take another step in the development of consumer hardware and Web3 gaming with the upcoming release of its PSG1 gaming console in October.
The Play Solana project, dedicated to creating a Web3 gaming device on the Solana blockchain, has announced that shipments of the Play Solana Gen 1 (PSG1) will begin on October 6.
The handheld PSG1 console features an eight-core ARM processor, 8GB of RAM, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a touchscreen LCD display. It also includes a built-in hardware wallet and fingerprint authentication, allowing players to securely store crypto assets while gaming.
In addition, the company has launched a limited collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that gives a group of 2,000 holders early access and other ecosystem benefits.
Solana expands its physical product line
The launch of the new console highlights Solana’s deeper commitment to developing consumer products following earlier experiments, such as the Saga smartphone.
In 2022, Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, introduced Saga, an Android-based blockchain-focused smartphone. Saga gave users access to native Web3 tools, including Seed Vault, Solana Mobile Stack, and a decentralized app (DApp) store designed for Solana’s ecosystem participants.
Saga’s debut initially received mixed feedback from the community but eventually succeeded, with its 2023 launch generating significant hype. In 2023, the device’s price on eBay surged to $5,000, driven by a free BONK memecoin airdrop, while its original price on Solana Mobile’s site was $599.
In 2024, Solana Mobile launched its second-generation phone, which had received 150,000 pre-orders and generated an estimated $67.5 million in revenue by the following year. On August 5, Solana Mobile announced shipments of its Seeker smartphone to over 50 countries.
Solana’s success in hardware production has inspired other ecosystems. In 2024, Sui blockchain creator Mysten Labs announced plans to release SuiPlay0X1, a handheld gaming device integrated with the Sui network, in the first half of 2025.
