Highlights

  • US Dollar faces increased volatility against the Hungarian Forint ahead of the Jackson Hole meeting with rising oil prices and Treasury yields supporting the currency.
  • Potential for Federal Reserve and Treasury coordination introduces downside risk to the greenback and tempers its short-term outlook.
  • USD/HUF shows strong short- and medium-term bullish momentum within a projected Ft313.8166 to Ft316.9706 range, with overbought indicators raising risk of a near-term pullback.

Rising oil and yields fuel dollar demand amid Jackson Hole uncertainty

According to Fxstreet, the US Dollar faces heightened uncertainty ahead of the upcoming Jackson Hole meeting, as traders weigh the impact of rising oil prices and higher Treasury yields, both of which lend support to the currency. This macroeconomic environment increases demand for the greenback relative to the Hungarian Forint as investors seek safety or yield advantages. However, the potential for Federal Reserve and Treasury coordination introduces downside risk, tempering the overall outlook and influencing short-term volatility between the currencies.

Buy signals persist as overbought levels clash with capped upside

On the technical front, USD/HUF has moved above its MA-20 and MA-50 on the hourly timeframe but remains capped below the MA-200 on the daily chart. The Ichimoku Kijun level at Ft314.02 acts as a key area of immediate support. Momentum indicators such as MACD and ADX still signal buy conditions, while the Awesome Oscillator supports the prevailing upward momentum. However, oscillators including RSI at 72.74, Stoch RSI, and CCI all highlight overbought conditions, with Bull/Bear Power confirming pronounced buyer dominance intraday. This creates a divergence between continued buy signals and increasingly stretched risk levels.

High probability of gains as rangebound outlook limits downside risk

In the short term, USD/HUF is projected to trade within a range of Ft313.8166 to Ft316.9706 over the next several sessions. The probability of an upward continuation is rated very high, though the risk of a downward move is considered very low. Baseline expectations point to consolidation within this corridor, while a break above resistance could signal further gains. Conversely, any move below the Ft314.02 support would expose the pair to a more pronounced pullback.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees solid macro and sentiment tailwinds for USD/HUF in the short term. He notes that rising oil prices and higher Treasury yields are fueling demand for the US Dollar, while technical signals remain bullish despite overbought risks. Karapetjanc believes cautious optimism is warranted but highlights potential volatility around Federal Reserve and Treasury policy signals. "Momentum is on the side of the Dollar, so I expect buyers to stay in control as long as Ft314.02 holds as support."

Earlier, analysts noted that USD/HUF was caught between short-term bullish momentum and lingering long-term resistance, with buyer dominance balanced by deeper structural challenges. The current analysis strengthens this view by highlighting persistent overbought signals and renewed upward momentum, making the Ft314.02 support level a critical threshold for traders as volatility is expected to remain elevated.
