Amazon stock price: AWS faces disruptions after Iranian attacks in Bahrain and UAE
AWS halted after Iranian attacks in Bahrain and UAE

Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced service disruptions following Iranian attacks on two of its data centers in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. These incidents occurred amidst ongoing military actions between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, highlighting the growing geopolitical risks for major tech companies, Yahoo Finance reported.

Incidents of attacks

The first incident took place on Sunday in Bahrain, where an Iranian attack impacted an AWS data center. This caused power outages and temporary loss of connectivity, affecting services in the region.

The second incident occurred on Monday in the UAE, where similar issues with power and connectivity were reported. As a result, power was lost in several availability zones, impacting AWS services.

The company confirmed that these incidents affected critical regional centers and impacted the operations of AWS customers, including Al Ghurair Investment LLC and Dubai Islamic Bank.

Impact on stock and potential consequences

Following the first incident, Amazon's stock showed a slight increase, rising by 1% to $210 per share. Despite this, disruptions in cloud services could have a long-term impact on Amazon, especially considering the importance of AWS for the company. Power and connectivity issues can cause significant inconvenience to clients, emphasizing the vulnerability of the platform.

These incidents underline the need for enhanced protection of cloud data centers and increased security measures to defend against external threats, such as cyberattacks and military actions.

Future outlook for AWS

AWS has stated it is conducting an investigation and strengthening its security measures to prevent further incidents. Given the geopolitical instability and potential for additional attacks, Amazon will need to bolster the protection of its infrastructure and improve communication with users to mitigate the impact of similar incidents in the future.
