Forbes magazine has published its updated global billionaire ranking for 2026. The list has seen notable changes, but the leader remains the same — Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk once again holds the top position.

According to the publication’s estimates, the entrepreneur has retained the title of the world’s richest person for the second consecutive year. At the same time, the ranking shows a stronger presence of technology and cryptocurrency entrepreneurs.

Musk remains in first place

Elon Musk’s net worth is estimated at $839 billion. This marks the first time his fortune has exceeded the $800 billion threshold. The bulk of his wealth is tied to his stakes in Tesla, SpaceX, and other technology ventures.

Google co-founder Larry Page ranks second with $257 billion, followed by Sergey Brin with $237 billion. The top five also includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with $224 billion and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg with $222 billion.

In total, the new ranking includes 3,428 billionaires whose fortunes exceed $1 billion. This is roughly 400 more than a year earlier. One of the key factors behind the growth in ultra-wealthy individuals has been the rapid expansion of companies linked to artificial intelligence.

“Growth in the share prices of companies tied to artificial intelligence has significantly boosted their fortunes. Over the past year, more than one new billionaire emerged every day,” said Forbes senior editor Chase Peterson-Withorn.

Changpeng Zhao  enters the world’s richest

A notable rise in the ranking was recorded by Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ), who climbed to 17th place.

The entrepreneur’s net worth is estimated at around $110 billion, nearly $47 billion more than a year ago. The main source of his wealth is his stake in Binance, which analysts estimate to be worth roughly $100 billion. CZ is believed to control about 90% of the company.

However, Zhao questioned the accuracy of such estimates. In a comment on the social platform X, he noted that global rich lists often rely on approximate calculations of assets.

According to him, determining the precise value of cryptocurrency-related wealth is difficult because the market remains volatile.

Crypto market and wealth estimates

Zhao also pointed out that the state of the crypto market affects such calculations. Bitcoin and other digital assets are still trading about 50% below their historical highs, which complicates the valuation of crypto-related holdings.

Unlike traditional businesses, the fortunes of crypto entrepreneurs are heavily influenced by market dynamics and the price of digital assets.

Earlier, we also reported that Changpeng Zhao has emphasized the importance of knowledge for confidence when investing in Bitcoin, noting that understanding the technology and fundamentals of the crypto market helps investors make more informed decisions.
