Mitie signals further growth as revenue and profit rise ahead of CEO transition
Mitie eyes further growth

Mitie says it is positioning for another phase of expansion as it posts double-digit annual revenue and profit growth before CEO Phil Bentley's planned retirement by the end of fiscal 2027. The British outsourcer points to contract wins, AI investment and demand tied to infrastructure and data centre projects as support for its next growth cycle.

Highlights

  • Mitie reports a 10.5% increase in revenue to £5.62 billion and a 13% rise in adjusted operating profit to £264.1 million for FY ended March 31.
  • Integration of Marlowe delivered cost synergies and new contract wins, with demand from infrastructure, power grids, and hyperscaler clients like Microsoft and Google driving growth.
  • CEO Bentley affirms FY25-27 margin targets, citing AI investments and succession plans, as shares rise 2.4% and have more than quadrupled since October 2023.

Growth plan and leadership transition

As reported by Reuters, Bentley says Mitie's current strategy is designed to carry the group into growth beyond the end of its turnaround programme and after his departure. He says the company's next phase is already being built through operational changes and investment, rather than depending on a new plan after he leaves.

Bentley, who has led Mitie since 2016, plans to retire by the end of March 2027 once a successor is appointed. The company says succession plans are well underway, while Bentley says he remains confident Mitie can meet the three-year strategic targets it set out in 2023.

He adds that investment in agentic AI and the group's ability to offset rising costs linked to the Middle East conflict support that outlook. Analysts have been weighing what will drive the next leg of growth as the turnaround is completed in fiscal 2027 and leadership changes approach.

Contracts, margins and market support

Revenue for the year ended March 31 rises 10.5% to 5.62 billion pounds, driven by new contract wins across the business. Adjusted operating profit increases 13% to 264.1 million pounds, above an LSEG analyst estimate of 254.88 million pounds, helped by cost savings and synergies from the integration of compliance specialist Marlowe.

Mitie, which provides security, cleaning and engineering services, is benefiting from spending on water infrastructure and power grids, as well as strong demand for data centre development. The group also delivers mechanical, electrical, cooling and security systems for hyperscalers and supports clients including Microsoft, Google and Equinix.

The company says growing AI-led investment is expected to support margin expansion toward its FY25-27 targets. Mitie shares rise 2.4% on Thursday and are up more than four-fold since the turnaround plan was launched in October 2023.

Our earlier coverage of large-scale AI data center expansion examined how cities and state lawmakers are moving to slow new projects amid concerns about energy use, transparency, and job impacts. We also noted that, despite growing local pushback and delayed developments, hyperscalers continue to commit massive capital to AI infrastructure, keeping demand for new capacity a central theme for the sector.
