RBI intervention curbs rupee volatility amid oil-driven caution

The Reserve Bank of India intervened to stabilize the Indian rupee at 95.2075 per US dollar on Friday, according to Brecorder, directly reducing volatility and helping maintain INR liquidity. Earlier in the day, a stronger US dollar and rising US Treasury yields had pressured the rupee lower, as noted by Timesofindia Indiatimes, creating some upward bias in AUD/INR cross rates. Throughout the session, traders navigated persistent high oil prices and uncertainty ahead of key US labor data, promoting a cautious tone and moderating directional moves in the pair.

Upward momentum faces overbought risks as trend strength wanes

On the technical side, AUD/INR holds above the MA-20 and MA-50 on the hourly chart and above the MA-200 on the daily, with the Ichimoku Kijun line at ₹67.0858 serving as immediate support. Momentum signals are positive with a MACD Buy and short-term dominance by buyers indicated via Bull/Bear Power, while the ADX reads Neutral—suggesting trend strength is limited at present. However, overbought conditions appear in the RSI (Buy signal near overbought), Stochastic RSI, and CCI, with the Awesome Oscillator also confirming upward momentum. Despite technical strength and a price position near the day’s high, multiple overbought signals highlight a potentially stretched setup.

Bullish bias persists with high upside odds and consolidation risk

Looking ahead to the next two to three sessions, AUD/INR is likely to trade within a band of ₹66.9796 to ₹67.6528, reflecting typical volatility around current levels. There is a 78% probability of an upside move, with a 22% chance of a downside break. The base case is for consolidation within this range, while a move above resistance could extend the bullish run and a fall through support would suggest further downside risk.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, analyst at Traders Union, sees ongoing macro and fundamental support for AUD/INR. He notes the Reserve Bank of India’s intervention is keeping INR stable, but global sentiment remains cautious due to strong US dollar flows and firm oil prices. Despite overbought technicals, he expects the pair to consolidate with a bullish tilt as long as fundamentals hold. "With RBI support and resilient global risk appetite, I remain constructively positioned for further AUD/INR gains if momentum persists."

Earlier, analysts noted that AUD/INR maintained a broadly bullish bias despite some mixed short-term signals and highlighted the importance of monitoring downside risks. The latest analysis reinforces this cautious perspective by emphasizing overbought technical conditions, suggesting traders should closely watch for potential volatility as the pair approaches overextended levels.
