Leadership plan for combined media group
As reported by CNBC, citing Paramount, Ellison announced on Wednesday that Kreiz will serve as co-CEO of the anticipated combined company with Warner Bros. Discovery. The company said the pair will lead as "one team," with Ellison focusing on long-term strategy, creative vision, talent relationships, strategic partnerships, technology and capital allocation, while Kreiz oversees day-to-day management and integration of the merged businesses.Ellison said combining Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery to create a next-generation global media company marks a transformational moment for the industry. He said leading that business requires strategic vision, operational depth and experience running a public company, qualities he said Kreiz brings to the role.
Merger timing and industry implications
The appointment comes less than two weeks after Paramount settled an antitrust lawsuit brought by a group of state attorneys general seeking to block the merger. A federal judge on Wednesday entered an order allowing the transaction to close, removing a key obstacle to the deal.Earlier the same day, Mattel said Kreiz is departing the toymaker after eight years as chief executive. During his tenure, he led major changes at the company and oversaw the release of "Barbie," the highest-grossing domestic film release of 2023, bringing entertainment and public-company operating experience to the planned media combination.
