Highlights

  • The Nasdaq 100 fell to near one-month lows as artificial intelligence-linked stocks declined on concerns about higher interest rates limiting sector investment.
  • Broader market volatility increased, with growth-focused names experiencing outsized declines due to heightened sensitivity to rate expectations.
  • Technical signals remain strongly bearish, with the index likely to consolidate between 29,105 and 29,733 and any upside move considered very unlikely without a break above 30,036.

AI stock decline intensifies as rate concerns fuel growth volatility

The Nasdaq 100 experienced selling pressure after a marked decline in artificial intelligence-linked stocks, as investors acted on concerns that higher interest rates could limit future investments in the sector, according to Channelnewsasia. This sector-specific downturn influenced broader market sentiment and contributed to near one-month lows for the index. Heightened sensitivity to rate dynamics appears to be amplifying volatility among growth names, resulting in deeper declines for the overall index.

Downside bias confirmed as technical signals turn oversold

Technically, NDX/USD trades below both the MA-20 at 30,003 and the MA-50 at 30,451 on the hourly chart, emphasizing short- and medium-term downside pressure. However, the price still holds above the long-term MA-200 at 27,719. The Ichimoku Kijun stands at 30,036, serving as the nearest resistance barrier. Momentum signals are predominantly negative, with the MACD on a Strong Sell and the ADX indicating a Sell bias. RSI falls to 30.13, confirming oversold conditions, while Stoch RSI shows a Strong Sell and CCI prints a Sell; Bull/Bear Power confirms sellers dominate intraday trading. The Awesome Oscillator remains neutral, providing no additional bias in the current downtrend.

Sideways consolidation likely as upside breakout seen unlikely

Over the next two to three trading days, the forecasted price range for NDX is set between 29,105 and 29,733, reflecting typical volatility relative to current levels. The probability of a sustainable move to the upside is assessed as very low, while the likelihood of further downside is considered very high. The base case scenario is a period of sideways consolidation within the projected range. An upward breakout would require a close above resistance at 30,036, whereas a bearish extension comes into play if support at 29,105 fails.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees the Nasdaq 100 under strong technical and sentiment-driven pressure. He points to AI-sector weakness and market worries over higher rates as key headwinds. With the index below short- and medium-term moving averages and most momentum signals negative, he does not expect upside soon. "In these conditions, I see little justification for bullish trades — consolidation or further declines remain the dominant scenarios unless 30,036 is reclaimed," the expert concludes.

Earlier, analysts noted that concerns over higher interest rates and rising AI infrastructure costs had triggered a significant selloff in technology shares, leading to broader market declines. The current technical setup reinforces that downside risks remain elevated for the Nasdaq 100, with attention now squarely on the 29,105 support level as a potential inflection point in the days ahead.
