As reported by GOV.UK, citing the UK government, Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds is using the Great Yorkshire Show on 16 July to set out the new Farmer Collaboration Fund, which is designed to back farmer-led cooperation through peer learning, specialist advice, local facilitators and support for new groups.

The scheme is intended to help farmers cut costs, manage shared risks and strengthen business resilience while also improving soil and water conditions across wider landscapes. The government says collaborative working can help farms share knowledge and expertise in ways that support both profitability and nature outcomes.

An example cited is farmers in the Cotswolds working together to learn how better soil health can improve farm performance and generate additional income. The fund forms part of the government’s Farming Roadmap and builds on existing measures aimed at encouraging innovation and a more productive, resilient and sustainable farming sector.

Sector support and regional impact

The Collaboration Fund is due to be delivered through organisations including charities, local authorities and NGOs, a structure the government says will give farmers access to trusted local expertise while reducing paperwork. That approach is intended to let participants focus more on practical learning and business improvement.

The government is also tripling dedicated funding for farmer welfare and wellbeing through a new £1.5 million Farmer Welfare Grant. Available over three years, that programme opens for applications on 6 August and is set to support targeted projects intended to strengthen farmers’ personal and business resilience, complementing broader efforts to support long-term viability in the UK farming sector.
