BOX Exchange sets 2026 SIFMA disaster recovery test for participants
BOX Exchange is preparing for its annual business continuity and disaster recovery testing cycle as part of its Regulation SCI obligations in the U.S. options market. The exchange says certain designated participants must join the industry-wide SIFMA test on October 24, 2026, with pre-tests scheduled for September 26 and October 10.
Highlights
- BOX Exchange will participate in the SIFMA BCP Test on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in line with Regulation SCI compliance requirements.
- Designated BOX Participants must submit quotes to the disaster recovery site during the test, with required activity levels set and communicated by the exchange.
- Pre-tests for all BOX Participants are scheduled for September 26 and October 10, 2026, requiring connection via the Chicago POP as NY4-Eqinix POP is unavailable.
Testing schedule and participation requirements
As BOX Exchange said in its notice, the exchange is participating in the annual SIFMA BCP Test on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in coordination with other market centers and in support of Regulation SCI.Certain BOX Participants are required under Regulation SCI and BOX Rule 2100 to take part in annual disaster recovery functional testing. BOX says it is using the industry-wide SIFMA BCP Test and its own pre-tests to meet that requirement, and it has separately notified the designated BCP/DR participants that must participate.
Those designated participants are expected to submit quotes to the disaster recovery site during the test. The exchange determines the expected level of quote activity for each designated participant and communicates that requirement directly.
On Saturday, September 26 and Saturday, October 10, all BOX Participants are able to pre-test connectivity to the BOX disaster recovery trading environment between 9:00 a.m. EDT and 1:00 p.m. EDT. Connection through the Chicago POP at 350 East Cermak is required because the NY4-Eqinix POP is not available for the pre-test.
Market coordination and operational impact
BOX says previous designated BCP/DR participants are also encouraged to join the exercise and are strongly encouraged to register with SIFMA. The test is part of broader industry preparedness efforts designed to check whether trading infrastructure can continue operating during a disruption.During the exercise, BOX is coordinating with SIFMA, The Options Clearing Corporation, and other options exchanges. Participants are instructed to operate as if it were a normal business day and must use a trade date of Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Our earlier coverage of OCC clearing support for MEMX Group’s new MX2 Options exchange explained how the launch expands the number of options venues cleared through OCC. We noted that MX2 leverages MEMX’s existing technology and connectivity, giving clearing members access to a broader set of U.S. listed derivatives markets under a single central counterparty framework.
