Fund structure and rollout plan
As reported by BusinessWorld Online, The Insular Life Assurance Co. Ltd., or InLife, has launched the Global Equity Premium Income Fund, a variable unit-linked fund designed to generate potential monthly income payouts through exposure to the Nasdaq-100 and a covered call strategy. The fund invests through a feeder structure into JPMorgan's Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF, or JEPQ, which gives access to companies similar to those represented in the Nasdaq-100 Index. That index tracks 100 of the largest nonfinancial companies listed on the Nasdaq stock market, including major global technology firms.
InLife says the fund generates income by selling call options to earn option premiums, a structure intended to support payouts and enhance value during periods of market volatility. The product is available for new applications and for eligible existing InLife VUL policies through fund switches and top-ups, including Wealth Assure Plus and Solid Fund Builder, subject to eligibility requirements.
Investor appeal and business context
Jose Eduardo O. Ang, InLife's chief product and innovation officer, says Filipino investors are seeking global growth opportunities in innovation and technology but often hesitate because of volatile markets. He says the new fund is designed to combine access to leading tech companies with an active covered call approach that can help policyholders stay invested across different market conditions. The launch adds an income-oriented option to InLife's investment product range as insurers compete for clients looking for yield and overseas market exposure. As of end-June, InLife reports net income of P1.079 billion, total assets of P178.263 billion, and total premium income of P16.48 billion.
In our earlier analysis of the Nasdaq 100’s recent volatility, we noted that the index rebounded after a sharp selloff driven by AI supply-chain concerns and higher financing costs for tech names. We also highlighted that, despite the bounce, NDX was still trading below key moving averages, with mixed momentum and oversold signals—making near-term direction dependent on whether resistance levels could be cleared.
