Nick Timiraos, chief economics correspondent at Wall Street Journal, reports that employment in the U.S. household survey decreased by 226,000 while the labor force contracted by 92,000.
He also highlights that labor force participation ticked down by one tenth to 61.8%. According to Timiraos, the unemployment rate remained stable due to people exiting the labor force rather than finding new jobs.
Earlier this year, Timiraos reported that U.S. job openings held steady at 7 million in March, matching the number of unemployed workers.
