Ben Carlson, director of institutional asset management at Ritholtz Wealth Management, observes that sentiment around bitcoin tends to be highly polarized, with investors often predicting it will either reach a million dollars or fall to zero.
He suggests that such extremes in opinion are unique among major asset classes.
Carlson has recently tracked performance trends across major equity segments. In one note, he observed emerging markets leading year-to-date gains at 31%, with small caps and other groups also outpacing the S&P 500 while the Magnificent 7 declined 3% here. He also reported that the S&P 493 outperformed both the S&P 500 and the Magnificent 7 in 2024 here. These assessments reflect Carlson’s focus on shifts among leading asset classes.
