Tone Vays, bitcoin analyst, derivatives trader and event producer, states that the 2x upgrade failed in 2017 because no core developers were willing to maintain its future code, except for Garzik and a few others.
Vays explains that Segwit succeeded as an upgrade because it had the support of both all nodes and core developers in the community.
Vays has previously noted that Bitcoin miners have refused to support proof-of-work changes lacking broad network consensus. He has also cautioned that using node software from teams endorsing Bip110 could pose security risks to the Bitcoin network. His past commentary has focused on the importance of alignment among miners, developers, and node operators.
