Edward Dowd: Index risk rises when two stocks control over half of market cap
Index risk from high concentration flagged

Edward Dowd, founding partner at OceanSquare Asset Mgmt and former BlackRock executive, draws attention to the risks that arise when an index becomes heavily concentrated, with two stocks accounting for more than 50% of its total market capitalization.

Dowd suggests such concentration may have notable implications for investors and the stability of the index.

Dowd has previously addressed developments in other major markets. He noted that the Japanese yen reached its lowest level since 1986, raising the prospect of intervention. He also highlighted accelerated redemptions at Morgan Stanley’s private credit fund from Q1 to Q2.
