Persistently high inflation drives up living costs, Mark Zandi notes
High inflation remains key financial issue

Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics, states that most Americans view persistently high inflation and the resulting higher cost of living as their number one financial problem.

Zandi points out that headline inflation is running no less than 3.5 percent, significantly exceeding the U.S. Federal Reserve's 2 percent target. He adds that inflation has remained well above target for five years.

Zandi recently noted that steady U.S. GDP growth at 2 percent is being driven by investment in AI and corporate tax cuts, but warned of ongoing consumer pressures in a prior interview. He has also argued that the June U.S. employment report showed notable weakness, contrary to prevailing commentary, according to a separate analysis. The latest comments add to his ongoing focus on household financial challenges.
