Tone Vays, bitcoin analyst, derivatives trader and event producer, describes ColdCard as the "Schrödinger's cat" of hardware wallets in 2021, claiming it was both the most secure wallet due to self-entropy with dice and the least secure because of a bug in the native random number generator process.
He adds that he does not blame anyone who recommended ColdCard during that period.

Vays has previously commented on hardware wallet vulnerabilities, noting that Bip110 supporters may seek a proof-of-work fork in light of a ColdCard exploit. He has also suggested that Trezor should implement Bip39 support to enable user-generated seeds, similar to features offered by Blockstream Jade. These remarks highlight his ongoing focus on wallet security and user control.
