Evan Solomon: Tariffs create uncertainty for Ontario manufacturers as C$7 million announced for two businesses
Tariffs impact Ontario, $7 million

Evan Solomon highlights how tariffs are causing significant uncertainty for manufacturers across Ontario.

He states that the main focus is on supporting Canadian businesses to help them adapt, invest, and compete. Solomon announced more than C$7 million in funding for two Lindsay-based businesses — Mariposa Dairy and Armada Toolworks — through FedDev Ontario’s Regional Tariff Response Initiative.

Mariposa Dairy will receive a repayable contribution of more than C$6.5 million toward a C$19.5 million project to expand its facility and introduce advanced automated processing, packaging and shipping technologies. Armada Toolworks will receive more than C$650,000 toward a C$1.3 million project to modernize operations, introduce new manufacturing technologies and diversify into new markets.

The investment comes as the federal government increases support for Ontario businesses and infrastructure. Canada has also allocated C$932 million for Ontario infrastructure through 2026–2027, providing additional funding as the province responds to economic and trade pressures.
