Employees give up only weeks worth of vested equity if they leave before IPO, Austen Allred notes
Leaving pre-IPO means losing weeks of equity

Austen Allred, founder / CEO at BloomTech, clarifies that vested equity does not disappear when an employee leaves a company. Allred explains that for a standard four-year vesting schedule, each week accounts for approximately 0.48% of the total equity grant. Employees departing just before an initial public offering (IPO) would forfeit only the equity scheduled to vest during those remaining weeks, not their entire vested holdings.

Allred has previously written about his experience with financial instruments, including making an initial investment in Michigan to understand how prediction markets operate. In a previous article, he detailed his approach and learning process in exploring prediction markets by investing in Michigan. This provides context for his perspective on equity and financial structures.
