Ledger supply chain attack steals $17.7 million

Alex Thorn is tracing the impact of a recent supply chain attack related to Ledger's CryptoBilliS. According to Thorn, the bitcoin portion of funds stolen in the incident amounts to 213.42 BTC, equivalent to $17.7 million.

He notes that 92% of the compromised funds were less than 90 days old, with some older bitcoin also affected. The stolen BTC currently remains unspent in three collector addresses.

Thorn previously reported that the U.S. government held more than 300,000 BTC in both January 2025 and October 2026, with a value reaching as high as $34.1 billion, according to his analysis of government-controlled wallets. In a separate project, he commissioned an AI-generated video covering bitcoin’s historical timeline using an extensive local database. These efforts demonstrate Thorn’s focus on tracking significant movements and documentation within the bitcoin ecosystem.
