U.S. deficit nears $2 trillion mark

The U.S. federal government ran a deficit just under $2 trillion in the last fiscal year, which ended on September 30.

E.J. Antoni reported that while tax receipts increased by $169 billion, government outlays rose by $386 billion, contributing to this substantial deficit.

Antoni has previously highlighted data lags impacting economic indicators, noting that CPI rent prices do not fully capture lower rent inflation. In a separate report, he observed that private U.S. oil stocks dropped by nearly 3.2 million barrels even as SPR withdrawals slowed. These posts reflect his ongoing reporting on federal and market-level economic metrics.
