Earnings per share (EPS) growth for the so-called 'Magnificent 7' stocks in the third quarter year-over-year is 22.6%, based on current reports from five of the companies, according to data shared by John Butters at FactSet. The remaining two companies, Apple and Nvidia, have not yet reported their results. In comparison, the other 493 companies in the S&P 500 have posted a 32.6% increase in EPS, which could be the first time since the fourth quarter of 2022 that this group outperforms the 'Mag 7'.
The information was highlighted by Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group.

Detrick has recently tracked shifts in the S&P 500, noting just one new low for the index for two consecutive days, as reported here. He also observed that the S&P 500 has gained around 18% since March 30, 2026, in line with historical patterns after midterm years, according to another report. These data points provide additional context to his ongoing analysis of major index performance.
