Ben Carlson: S&P 500 up 11.8% in year with most stocks posting gains
S&P 500 and most stocks see yearly gains

The S&P 500 has gained 11.8% so far this year, with the average stock up 14.9% and the median stock rising 8.9% through Friday's close. About two-thirds of stocks are up on the year, while one-third have posted gains of 20% or more and one in five are down 10% or more.

Ben Carlson described these results as reflecting more or less a normal year without significant corrections to date.

Earlier this year, Ben Carlson highlighted the 50% decline in Planet Fitness shares. He also recently advised investors that it may be timely to rebalance their portfolios. These observations add context to his view that current market results remain within typical historical patterns.
