Sector divergence highlights catch-up rally

Broader market indices saw sharp declines this week, with SPX down 2.7% and CCMP falling 3.4%. In contrast, sectors including XLC rose 5.4%, XLY increased 3.3%, and healthcare, real estate, staples, and financials saw gains of 1–2%. Stephanie Link, Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Hightower Advisors, described the move as more than a defensive rally and suggested it was a catch-up rally after these sectors had become cheap and overlooked.

Earlier this month, Stephanie Link highlighted a 7% weekly decline in XLK as energy, staples, and healthcare posted gains and financials showed signs of recovery in her coverage of sector performance here. In a separate article, she also noted SpaceX's acquisition of 800 MHz spectrum for Starlink Mobile here. These developments reflect Link’s focus on notable shifts across industries.
