Lightning Network capacity drops 45 percent

Lightning Network capacity reached its highest point at the beginning of 2026 and has since decreased by 45% in BTC terms year to date.

Jameson Lopp, a board member at Casa, reported the figures.

Lopp has previously warned that third-party bitcoin custody through ETFs does not eliminate loss risks. He has also criticized users for shifting trust from one centralized provider to another after security lapses. These views reflect his ongoing focus on operational risks in the bitcoin ecosystem.
