IRS launches tax professional awareness week ahead of 2027 filing season
IRS Tax Awareness Week Launch

The IRS is rolling out Tax Professional Awareness Week starting Oct. 19 as it steps up outreach before the 2027 filing season. The program centers on webinars, training tools and security guidance intended to improve return accuracy and help protect taxpayer information.

Highlights

  • The IRS is launching Tax Professional Awareness Week starting Oct. 19, offering webinars, videos, and tax tips to strengthen return accuracy and data security.
  • Key initiatives include an Oct. 21 webinar on refundable credits, resources on IRS.gov, guidance on Schedule C errors, and promotion of Tax Pro Account services.
  • The campaign emphasizes ongoing IRS investment in digital education and compliance tools, impacting tax preparer operations and sector support ahead of the 2027 filing season.

IRS training push for preparers

As reported by Internal Revenue Service, the agency is using the week of Oct. 19 to highlight resources for tax professionals, including instructional videos, webinars and tax tips tied to filing season preparation.

IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano says tax professionals play an important role in helping taxpayers comply with the law while claiming the benefits available to them. The agency says the week’s materials are designed to support accurate return preparation and strengthen safeguards around sensitive taxpayer data.

Featured content includes an Oct. 21 webinar, "How Much Do You Know About Refundable Credits," with IRS subject matter experts. The IRS also plans to promote Taxpayer Advocate Service resources, guidance on completing Form 8867, help on avoiding common Schedule C reporting errors, and information on Tax Pro Account and related services.

Filing season priorities and sector impact

The awareness campaign also covers due diligence, identity theft prevention, cybersecurity, payment modernization, Automatic Exemption from Penalty, Saver’s Match, Trump Accounts and other filing season priorities. Tax professionals are encouraged to use the materials to prepare operations and client support ahead of the next filing cycle.

For the tax preparation sector, the initiative signals continued IRS investment in digital education and compliance support rather than a one-time seasonal update. The agency says additional resources remain available on IRS.gov throughout the year, including registration information for the Oct. 21 webinar and other educational materials.

Our earlier coverage of Pakistan’s Tax Year 2026 income tax filing deadline focused on growing calls for the Federal Board of Revenue to grant an extension amid technical glitches on the IRIS portal and the late finalization of return forms. The article detailed how tax experts and business groups argued that system disruptions and procedural requirements are undermining on-time compliance and increasing the risk of penalties for taxpayers.
