U.S. midday trading highlights sharp swings across earnings, guidance updates
Midday trading in the U.S. is showing steep share-price moves across technology, aerospace, consumer and financial names as investors react to quarterly results and forward guidance. The biggest declines are hitting companies that cut outlooks, missed forecasts or flagged weaker operating trends, while a smaller group of stocks is rising on earnings beats and stronger projections.
Highlights
- Honeywell Aerospace drops 20% after cutting 2026 organic sales growth outlook to 4%-5% and missing second-quarter earnings and revenue estimates.
- UWM Holdings plunges over 33% on a $452 million net loss for the quarter and the suspension of its dividend for the first time.
- Albemarle rises over 8% post second-quarter earnings of $3.75 per share on $1.7 billion revenue, beating analyst expectations.
Earnings and outlooks drive midday movers
As reported by CNBC, several of the session's biggest moves are tied to earnings releases and changes in company guidance rather than broader market factors.Honeywell Aerospace is falling 20% after cutting its 2026 outlook, with the company now expecting organic sales growth of 4% to 5%, down from its previous 7% to 9% range. The aerospace and defense group also posts second-quarter adjusted earnings and revenue that sharply miss estimates.
UWM Holdings is dropping more than 33% after reporting a net loss of $452 million for the latest quarter and pausing its dividend for the first time. Peloton Interactive is down 16% after fourth-quarter results show earnings in line with expectations and revenue above forecasts, but active paying subscribers fall 8.8% from a year earlier.
Datadog is sliding 16% as its third-quarter revenue guidance of $1.135 billion to $1.145 billion only narrowly tops the FactSet consensus estimate of $1.11 billion, despite second-quarter earnings and revenue beating forecasts. Figma is losing 14% after issuing softer-than-expected full-year adjusted operating income guidance, while Duolingo is down 9% after current-quarter revenue and bookings guidance both come in slightly below FactSet expectations.
Among gainers, Albemarle is rising more than 8% after second-quarter results beat analyst expectations, including adjusted earnings of $3.75 per share on $1.7 billion in revenue. Motorola Solutions is adding more than 6% after topping Street estimates in the second quarter and issuing stronger-than-expected third-quarter and full-year earnings guidance, while Macom Technology is up 10% after fiscal third-quarter results beat FactSet forecasts.
Pressure spreads across chips, platforms and consumer names
Several technology and consumer-facing companies are also under pressure as investors weigh weaker guidance, revenue misses and management changes.Western Digital is down more than 10% even though its current-quarter targets are above LSEG consensus on both earnings and revenue, a sign that traders are looking for a stronger outlook. Sandisk is slipping 4% after first-quarter revenue guidance of $10.3 billion to $10.8 billion appears to disappoint despite fourth-quarter results beating expectations on both the top and bottom lines.
AppLovin is tumbling nearly 18% after third-quarter adjusted EBITDA guidance falls short of StreetAccount expectations, and Bumble is down 6% after posting a second-quarter loss of 84 cents per share against expectations for a profit, alongside weaker adjusted EBITDA guidance for the third quarter. Warby Parker is shedding 12% after second-quarter revenue misses the LSEG consensus estimate, even though EBITDA comes in ahead of expectations.
Zillow is sliding more than 12% after expanding Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Hofmann's role to include chief operating officer and after announcing roughly 500 job cuts a day earlier. The company still reports adjusted earnings and revenue above LSEG estimates for the latest quarter.
Elsewhere, DoorDash is gaining 3% after quarterly revenue beats consensus, while IonQ is up 2.2% on better-than-expected second-quarter revenue and full-year guidance above FactSet forecasts. Diageo is rising 5% after unveiling a $1 billion cost-cutting plan and reporting higher adjusted operating profit for the year ended in June despite a decline in net sales, and Salesforce is down 4% after saying it will name Miguel Milano as operating chief on Wednesday.
In our earlier coverage of the selloff in data-storage and semiconductor shares, we noted that Sandisk and Western Digital fell sharply even after issuing revenue guidance above consensus. The move underscored how elevated AI-driven expectations have made it harder for chip-linked names to clear the market’s bar, with weakness spilling over into other major semiconductor stocks.
