SanDisk Corporation (SNDK) plunged 8.44% after strong selling pressure dominated the session, even as robust corporate orders and new product releases provided a positive backdrop for the company. The move faces limits, with price momentum stretched and the stock stalling below its 50-day moving average resistance, even as longer-term technicals remain bullish.

Analyst upgrades and product launches offset by persistent selloff

SanDisk reported a $93.9 billion backlog in contractual commitments from eight major datacenter customers, with $16.5 billion covered by financial guarantees. The company introduced new products, including a 9th generation QLC 3D flash memory platform and the High Bandwidth Flash specification developed with Kioxia. Non-GAAP gross margin targets of 80% through fiscal 2030 and guidance for mid-to-high teens revenue growth from 2028 to 2030 were issued, supported by quarterly revenue of approximately $5.95 billion and net income of $3.62 billion. The profile was further elevated by major analyst upgrades and ETF inclusions, though price action has remained under broader selling pressure.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees the selling pressure in SanDisk as a warning despite strong institutional orders and positive news flow. He notes the divergence between robust fundamentals and technical exhaustion, with momentum signals mixed and multiple oscillators showing overbought readings. The failure to hold above the 50-day moving average and the sharp 8.44% decline indicate that buyers may have overextended themselves. ETF inclusions and analyst upgrades did little to shield the stock from a strong wave of profit-taking. "Despite headline optimism, I see a clear risk of further retracement as bullish technicals clash with stretched sentiment," Kharitonov states.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, highlights SanDisk's immense contractual backlog and industry leadership in datacenter memory solutions. He points to ambitious growth targets, robust margins, and strategic partnerships as strong drivers for sustained upside. The analyst views the temporary price dip as an opportunity for investors to participate in a long-term bullish structure. "I am confident the stock will resume its uptrend, as the market offers multiple setups for further growth on this solid fundamental base," says Karapetjanc.
Jainam Mehta, market strategist, believes SanDisk sits at a tactical inflection point. The wide volatility band and the 76% probability for an upward move suggest potential for a breakout if resistance at $1,656 is cleared. At the same time, divergence in momentum indicators points to risks of near-term whipsaw. "If price holds above support, tactical longs could benefit from renewed momentum — but a break lower opens room for contrarian entries on further weakness," Mehta advises.

Mixed momentum and overbought signals amid resistance at MA-50

SanDisk is trading above its 20-day moving average (MA-20) at $1,373 and the 200-day (MA-200) at $911.29, but just below the 50-day (MA-50) at $1,656, suggesting the short-term trend faces resistance while both medium- and long-term trends remain broadly positive. The nearest ceiling is set at $1,656, and the day's low of $1,614 acts as initial support, with the alignment of MA-50 versus MA-200 confirming a bullish long-term structure. Daily momentum signals for the stock are mixed. The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Average Directional Index (ADX) are neutral, while the Relative Strength Index (RSI) reads 61.06 and projects a buy, hinting at bullish undercurrents. However, both the Stochastic RSI and Commodity Channel Index (CCI) are firmly overbought, indicating stretched conditions. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) at 381.06 shows buyers dominate intraday momentum but forecasts overbought, suggesting a heightened risk of a retracement. The stock declined to $1,636, falling 8.44% on the day after opening with a downside gap of about 6%. Price currently sits near the session low and intraday volatility stands at 6.24%. There has been strong selling pressure since the open and momentum signals present a divergence, with overbought oscillators clashing with mostly neutral to bullish momentum readings.

Previously it was reported that SanDisk demonstrated robust earnings and technical strength, positioning the stock within a broadly bullish trend despite volatility. The current session adds a new dimension as strong selling pressure drives the stock below its 50-day moving average, indicating traders should closely monitor the $1,656 resistance and $1,614 support for potential direction in the days ahead.
