What's behind Uber's latest 3.8% stock pullback?
Uber slides 3.77% today on risks

Uber Technologies, Inc. (UBER) dropped 3.77% today as profit-taking, cautious investor sentiment, and risks related to its Delivery Hero takeover triggered fresh selling. The down move is supported by Uber trading below both its 20-day and 200-day moving averages, with technical resistance and a bearish MA-50 versus MA-200 alignment limiting near-term recovery.

Highlights

  • Uber stock came under pressure due to profit-taking, integration risks from the Delivery Hero deal, regulatory penalties in Europe, and competition in autonomous vehicles.
  • Institutional flows were mixed, with Cacti Asset Management raising its Uber stake and Ferguson Wellman Capital Management reducing its position.
  • Uber stock fell 3.77% to $75.93, with technicals showing resistance above $76 and a projected trading range of $72.96 to $78.9 in the next five sessions.

Investor rotation and regulatory headwinds reshape institutional positioning

Uber recently faced a decrease in investor appetite stemming from profit-taking and concerns about integration risks tied to its Delivery Hero acquisition. Additional pressure has come from European regulatory penalties and ongoing commitments to autonomous vehicle investments, as well as operational challenges from new partnerships and competition among robotaxi providers. Uber’s recent launch of a robotaxi platform license application in Seoul and new teen safety features were also reported. Institutional activity showed Cacti Asset Management increased its holding in Uber, while Ferguson Wellman Capital Management decreased its position.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, views the recent Uber decline as a warning signal. He notes that profit-taking, regulatory setbacks, and concerns about the Delivery Hero acquisition all compound downside risks. Kharitonov emphasizes the technical weakness, with Uber unable to regain even its short-term moving averages. He points out that the buyer momentum seen intraday is misleading as the stock closed at session lows, suggesting persistent vulnerability. In his view, further volatility and selling can’t be ruled out. "Despite brief upside signals, structural risks and weak technicals mean Uber remains exposed to deeper pullbacks," Kharitonov warns.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, believes Uber’s bullish structure remains fundamentally sound. He highlights institutional interest from Cacti Asset Management and the company’s ongoing investments in innovation and global expansion. Karapetjanc sees short-term volatility as an opportunity, with regulatory hurdles and acquisition risks insufficient to dilute growth prospects. He views the sideways price action as healthy consolidation before potential upside. "Further growth is expected as the market digests recent news and Uber prepares for additional momentum above resistance levels," he asserts.
Jainam Mehta, market strategist, sees mixed signals in Uber’s technicals and recent volatility. He points to the divergence between momentum oscillators forecasting potential upside and the daily close near session lows. Mehta suggests this scenario could offer tactical short-term trading setups either on a breakout or a support retest. "I suggest watching for a potential breakout above $76 or a contrarian entry near $73 if weakness persists," Mehta recommends.

Bearish moving average alignment amid positive but volatile momentum

Uber is trading below its 20-day moving average at $76 and the 200-day moving average at $76.74, but remains above the 50-day moving average at $73.69. This arrangement indicates resistance from sellers in the short and long term, with medium-term support still in place. The bearish configuration between the MA-50 and MA-200 further reinforces caution. The near-term resistance is at $76, with immediate support seen at $75.46. Momentum signals overall are positive: the MACD suggests a buy outlook and the ADX is neutral, indicating a lack of trend strength. Oscillators such as RSI, CCI, and Stochastic RSI all lean towards further upside, with RSI still not overbought. Intraday buyer dominance is reflected in the elevated Bull/Bear Power at 1.61, which also signals an overbought warning. Despite positive momentum signals, Uber closed near its session low following a notable daily decline and increased volatility.

Earlier, analysts noted that Uber’s bullish structure was intact as shares broke above previous resistance and sustained upward momentum. The current environment, however, introduces heightened volatility and fresh downside risk tied to profit-taking and acquisition-related uncertainty, making a move above the $76 resistance level an essential signal for any renewed bullish scenario.
