Upbeat results shift sentiment amid higher expectations for future quarters

Applied Materials advanced after reporting record revenue and profit for Q3 2026, reflecting strong demand for wafer fabrication equipment used in artificial intelligence applications. The company's earnings release boosted investor sentiment and increased expectations for the next quarter. This upbeat performance remains the primary driver for today's action.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, views the latest AMAT surge as temporary relief within a weaker setup. He notes that the stock remains pressured below its short- and medium-term moving averages, despite strong Q3 results and AI-driven demand. Bears dominate, as evidenced by oversold indicators and ongoing downside momentum. He warns that consolidation at these levels may only precede further weakness if technicals do not improve. "Persistent selling pressure and oversold signals suggest traders should be cautious and not chase the current bounce," Kharitonov says.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees robust AI demand and record Q3 figures as clear catalysts for Applied Materials’ long-term bullish case. He points out that the company’s structural growth story remains intact, with the 200-day moving average signaling sustained institutional interest. Karapetjanc emphasizes that positive earnings sentiment and sector tailwinds will likely support further price appreciation toward $474.33. "In my view, today’s move confirms ongoing opportunity for investors as the bullish structure remains intact and further growth is expected," he states.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, highlights the current battle between strong news-driven buying and lingering bearish technical momentum. He sees the intraday surge and oversold levels as creating fertile ground for quick, sentiment-driven trades in the $445.2 to $459.96 range. Turakhiya believes volatility and mixed signals could favor nimble traders through sharp reversals or breakouts. "I see short-term opportunities for responsive traders, especially if price tests oversold conditions or swiftly reclaims resistance," Turakhiya notes.

Bearish momentum persists despite price rally and oversold indicators

Applied Materials is trading below its 20-day ($493.65) and 50-day ($537.97) moving averages, but remains above its 200-day average ($405.93). This configuration signals short- and medium-term seller pressure, though the long-term uptrend is intact, supported by a bullish alignment between the 50- and 200-day averages. Immediate resistance is seen at $459.96 and nearest support at $445.2. Momentum indicators show a negative setup with both the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Average Directional Index (ADX) pointing to weak and neutral momentum. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 32.92, Stochastic RSI at 0, and Commodity Channel Index (CCI) at -141.12 all indicate oversold conditions. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) at -33.15 suggests sellers dominate intraday action and confirms the oversold environment. The Awesome Oscillator (AO) reinforces the selling trend. Today, the stock is up $19.34 or 4.44% at $455.14, opening with a sharp upside gap near $14.87 (3.41%). Trading is concentrated near the day’s highs, with intraday volatility at 3.32%, indicating strong action toward the top of the range, which contrasts with bearish momentum signals and highlights a divergence between price recovery and underlying selling pressure.

Previously it was reported that Applied Materials faced persistent short- and medium-term technical pressure despite posting strong quarterly results. The current rebound, while notable, does not resolve the prevailing bearish momentum signals, making sustained closes above immediate resistance at $459.96 a key level to watch for confirmation of any sustained trend reversal.
