GXO Logistics new-business wins support margin growth case
GXO eyes margin gains

GXO Logistics is leaning on organic expansion, automation and long-term customer contracts as management tries to turn a growing sales pipeline into faster revenue and margin gains. Investor focus is now shifting toward a Nov. 16 investor day, where the company is expected to give clearer targets after its shares trail peers and fall following recent results.

Highlights

  • GXO secures $410 million in second-quarter new business wins, up 34% year-on-year, with 40% from strategic verticals supporting margin growth.
  • Integration of Wincanton expected to yield $60 million in annual cost savings by year-end, aiding margin improvement as investors await November event details.
  • Shares down 13.7% year to date and trading at 8x forward EV/EBITDA, below historical average, despite 17 buy ratings and $68.54 LSEG average price target.

Pipeline growth and investor day focus

As reported by CNBC, GXO is positioning its recent contract wins as a leading indicator for future financial improvement, even as that momentum is not yet fully visible in reported results. The contract logistics group says rising supply chain complexity, tariffs, regulation and geopolitical uncertainty are pushing more companies to outsource logistics, particularly in e-commerce and specialized sectors such as pharmaceuticals.

Chief Executive Patrick Kelleher, who takes over a little more than a year ago after previously leading DHL Supply Chain in North America, is prioritizing organic growth over acquisitions. The company is now emphasizing four strategic verticals, aerospace and defense, technology and data centers, industrials, and life sciences, where it uses AI and automation to improve speed, flexibility and productivity across customer supply chains.

In the second quarter, new business wins rise 34% from a year earlier to $410 million, while about 40% of those wins come from the targeted growth verticals. GXO also says the integration of Wincanton should deliver $60 million in cost savings by the end of the year, supporting margin improvement as investors look for more detail on growth, margins and capital deployment at the November event.

Valuation gap and sector positioning

Analysts say the main debate is timing, because new contracts can take six to nine months to appear in revenue, while margin benefits are expected to build later. That lag helps explain why the stock falls 9.1% after the latest results, despite organic revenue growth of 3.4% and expectations among several brokerages that margin tailwinds begin to emerge in the fourth quarter and build more clearly in 2027.

GXO presents itself as relatively defensive because of long-term contracts, minimum volume commitments, take-or-pay provisions and inflation escalators. The company also benefits from scale, operating more than 1,000 facilities in 26 countries with 154,000 employees, while analysts argue its network density and infrastructure create barriers that are difficult for newer entrants to replicate quickly.

Shares are down 13.7% year to date and trade at about 8 times forward enterprise value to EBITDA, below the company’s four-year historical average of 9 times and below some peers including Ryder System and C.H. Robinson Worldwide. According to LSEG data cited in the text, GXO has 17 buy ratings, one hold and no underperform ratings, with an average price target of $68.54, while management says it continues to view the current share price as attractive enough to support buybacks in the second half of the year.

Our earlier article examined the investment case for Verisk Analytics after a steep share-price decline reset its valuation, even as its recurring revenue base and high margins remained intact. It noted that concerns about slower growth and AI disruption may be overstated given Verisk’s proprietary data, very high client retention, and deep integration across the insurance industry, with recent softness framed as largely temporary.
